PROSPERITY THROUGH DEVELOPMENT

There is a palpable curiosity among the people of Maharashtra ever since the Chief Minister made the announcement about Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg in the Vidhan Sabha in 2015. As the process of land measurement for the Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is being completed, let us know more about this biggest dream project.

Maharashtra has always been at the forefront of India’s development. The state has led the country in technology and skilled human resource. The government has always striven to provide a high standard of living to its citizens along with minimum needs of food, clothing and shelter.

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has played an important role in the development of Maharashtra. In the last 21 years, MSRDC has not only focused on providing concrete roads for safe and fast travel but also built an expressway linking Pune and Mumbai and the breathtakingly beautiful Bandra-Worli sea-link. Along with these high cost projects MSRDC has successfully provided road connectivity to several small cities and towns in Maharashtra.

Continuing this tradition, the government is now focusing its attention on building a 700 kilometre Maharashtra Samruddhii Mahamarg which will speedily connect the capital Mumbai to the second capital Nagpur. Apart from providing an efficient journey, the Mahamarg connects more than 392 villages that fall in this belt, thereby making them a part of the development process. Apart from this, 20 Krishi Smaruddhi Kendras (new townships) are being developed along the Corridor. These new townships will be developed with the most modern amenities and facilities. Experts say that this will facilitate the growth of employment in rural areas. As a result of this project, the rural areas of this belt will witness an industrial revolution and will benefit from large scale investment which in turn will strengthen the rural economy.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg will pass through ten districts of Thane, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna, Buldhana, Washim, Amravati, Wardha and Nagpur. Tourism in these areas will get a boost as religious places like Shirdi, Trimbakeshwar and Shegaon and tourism spots of Ajanta and Ellora are located within these 10 districts. Faster transport will also ensure easier import-export of farm goods which in turn will increase the standard of living of the farmer.

To ensure that the land owners whose land will be used for the development of the Corridor get maximum benefit out of this project, the government is proposing a unique concept of “land pooling”. This will facilitate a fast-paced development.

The process of land measurement is at its final phase and the actual construction of the Samruddhi Mahamarg will begin soon. As a result of this project, Maharashtra will occupy a place of pride not only in India but also in the world.
